Mangrove Great House
An historic hillside retreat built in 1700s, the story of Mangrove Plantation is woven into Barbados' history. The former residence of Governor Skeet, circa 1730, lay in ruins until it was rediscovered in 2000 and lovingly restored to create a luxurious and comfortable family home with swimming pool and tropical gardens.
This client required an outdoor barbecue & entertainment area to be situated in their favorite garden location - under a massive rubber tree on a rise overlooking the Caribbean Sea. A custom built 1.30 meter brick & stainless steel grill was designed, integral with a 3 meter long wet bar and a 400 square meter slate deck. The perimeter of the deck is surrounded with custom built Brazilian Walnut benches. These were designed ergonomically, as well as to create a soft rolling appearance as seen in the hills of the surrounding landscape. Two rectangular fire pits frame the views west and add a cosy warmth to evening entertainment. Between the exotic arial roots of the rubber tree and the deck, varieties of aglaonemas, calatheas and philodendrons were planted for a lush tropical appeal. Launch Gallery
